05/06 Cyclorama, Boston

Invited to perform at the annual Boston ICA fundraising gala at the Cyclorama, sosolimited began its search for the perfect marriage of money, art, and copyright piracy. When we stumbled upon Audrey Hepburn’s 1966 classic, How to Steal a Million, we knew we found our movie.

We spliced and reassembled this twisty tale of art forgery, art theft, millionaires, and romance, into a six minute video performance and set it to an original soundtrack. The piece is divided into three distinct musical movements, each of which begins with an unadultered scene from the film and seamlessly launches into beautiful abstractions of color, texture, and sound.

The piece was performed on an array of two dozen plasma screens evenly distributed along the perimeter of the space, facing toward the audience in the dining area. Shortly after the guests entered the space, soso was uncovered from within a glowing translucent curtain box as they began the performance.
